Landscape Design & Masterplanning
Scarp undertakes all aspects of landscape design from concept proposals through to detailed design and on-site implementation. We have the ability to plan and design at all scales: from the complexities of the city and the multi-dimensional interactions of large-scale rural landscapes to the confines of the local park and the community garden.
We undertake rigorous landscape, townscape and visual analysis studies to provide robust evidence bases and comprehensive frameworks for informing master planning exercises and for preparing design strategies. Our design approach is always based upon a sound understanding of the site and its surrounding context, teasing out those landscape, heritage and ecological resources and sensitivities that are most desirable to conserve.
We pride ourselves in providing creative, high quality landscape design solutions that meet our clients’ requirements and respond sensitively to both the local environment and the expectations of stakeholders and local communities.
Underlying all that we do is our understanding of how people’s lives shape, and are shaped by, their environments and our ideal of making attractive, distinctive and people-friendly places where we ourselves — and ultimately, many others — would want to live.
We encourage the use of community workshops as these help create a sense of shared ownership for master planning exercises, help achieve collective visions and provide stakeholders with opportunities to contribute to ‘placemaking’ for new neighbourhoods.
The company provides landscape expert witness services at public inquiries.
Scarp staff have presented evidence for planning appeals that have considered a wide range of development types, comprising wind farm, residential, commercial and mixed use development. This planning inquiry work has included a new, mixed-use sustainable community of up to 3,000 dwellings and 10ha of employment land at South East Aylesbury
